The main agenda for the project was to provide immediate relief to flood-displaced persons by distributing food and nonfood items as well as to restore dignity to the school going girls by providing sanitary towels to 200 girls.
With your donations, we were able to do the following in Oyugis, Kenya.
Supplies and Impact to the Community
No | Supplies | Impact to the Community |
---|---|---|
1 | Mosquito Nets | The village being a mosquito prevalent area, we were able to eliminate malaria in the families. |
2 | Blankets | People had been displaced by floods and lost all their bedding. This alleviated suffering for the families and mostly children sleeping in cold. |
3 | Sanitary Pads | This alleviated suffering and helped uphold dignity for the girls during periods. The supplies were enough for 2 months for each girl. |
4 | Food Stuff | With an average of 6 members in a family, about 1,000 people benefited. Corn, Beans, Flour, and rice were donated. |
5 | Lunch Supplies for the Event | The village had an opportunity to meet, share a meal and get reassurance as they try to recover from the effects of floods. |
6 | Counseling Session for Teenage Schoolgirls | The girls were inspired to continue working hard in school to help their families in the future. There are many cases of early marriages which were addressed too. We worked in partnership with LVCT counselors. |
Distribution Process
- Needs Assessment: A needs assessment was conducted to identify the most pressing needs for households, focusing on the elderly, children, widows, and their families.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Local stakeholders, including the Area Member of Parliament, community leaders, and volunteers, were involved in the distribution process.
- Procurement and Preparation: Food items such as maize, beans, and cooking flour were procured and packaged, while non-food items like sanitary kits, blankets, and mosquito nets were packed for distribution.
- Distribution Site: Distribution sites were set up in accessible locations within the affected communities to ensure a smooth distribution process.
At DKF, we are now getting ready for the end of the year activities and next years plan for supporting our children. We have 100 needy children that we support with basic needs in the lower eastern counties in Kenya.
